Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

In Connecticut, transportation providers are not permitted to bill insurance directly for NEMT rides. To use your insurance for NEMT services, you must first contact your insurance provider to confirm coverage. If eligible, your provider will coordinate with a state-approved broker who manages these services. The broker then assigns the ride to a transportation company like us at QC Transport.

We highly encourage you to specifically request Quiet Corner Transport when arranging your rides through your insurance. This ensures that you receive service from a trusted local provider familiar with our community’s needs. Unfortunately, some insurance plans may opt to use cost-saving alternatives such as Lyft or Uber, which might not offer the same reliability or familiarity with rural areas as our dedicated services.

Coverage for NEMT rides can vary significantly depending on your individual insurance plan. In Connecticut, most Medicaid/Husky members are eligible to receive NEMT rides at no cost. These services are typically arranged through the state’s Medicaid transportation broker, MTM, which coordinates and approves all travel. If you are covered by Medicaid/Husky, please contact MTM directly to book your transportation.

For those with private insurance or Medicare Part D, coverage details can differ. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to verify if NEMT services are included in your plan and to understand the specifics of your coverage. Our team at QC Transport is also here to assist with any questions you might have about insurance and service eligibility.

If your insurance company refuses to cover your NEMT rides you have a few options.

First, consider reaching out to the insurance company directly again and explaining your situation and the medical need for the transportation to be cover. This may also be an area your doctors office or case manager can help you navigate.

Second, reach out to your doctor/case manager to see what community resources are out there. Your local senior center may also have some good resources for you to consider, that may make these trips more affordable.

Third, reach out to your local gorvernment to find out about your local Dial-a-Ride services. If you are near a bus route then Dial-a-Ride may be your best and most affordable transportation option. However, each program does have limitations depending on avaliability, appointment times, and location.

Finally, if you are in Eastern Conneticut and you've exhausted all the above options, consider signing up for the Eastern Conneticut Transportation Consortium Voucher Program. This is a federally sponsoured program, funded by the Department of Transportation to address the lack of relaible public transportation within Eastern CT. The program allows you to purchase vouchers at 1/2 their face value (exampe $100 voucher only cost you $50). There is an application process but the people are ECTC will be able to help provide you with more information.
